Choosing Courage Over Careful

I went to see Florence and The Machine last Wednesday night and in the song, “The Old Religion,” a few lines stood out: “I am wound so tightly, I hardly even breathe…so tired of being careful, so tired of being still.”

It really hit home for me because I realized, how many times do we, me included, choose careful over courageous? Choose safety over being bold? Minimize ourselves, rather than expand into our voices?

And being wound so tightly by the perfection and control that’s underneath “careful.” As well as being “good” and not rocking the boat. Not taking up space and staying small.

However, to live a life that's big, is apparent in someone like Florence who takes up the stage with her energy, while dancing and skipping with joy. She's always barefoot and being her true self – that's living! Rather than being careful.

Because yeah, I'm tired of being careful too.

So, this week, I’m noticing when careful overrides courage. I’m choosing courage. As I spoke of last week, you never know what extraordinary adventures await you in the courageous choices.
