The Time My Intuition Yelled at Me

Sometimes our intuition tells us to do something that makes absolutely no rational sense. Do you follow it, or do you deny it?

Since I talked about my relationship last week, I'm going to tell you another part of that evening as a way to illustrate this.

My waitressing shift started at 6 PM on a Tuesday night. Around 3 PM that day, in my mind, I started to hear a voice saying, "you need to go to work early."

Why would I do such a thing? What a ridiculous command.

So, I ignored it.

A half hour later, it chimed in again. "You need to go to work early."

Again, I dismissed it.

At 4 PM, that voice was no longer whispering. It began to shout, "YOU NEED TO GO TO WORK EARLY TONIGHT!"

By now I was wondering what was going on and at least I was cognizant enough to understand that maybe I should listen. So I started getting ready for work.

And still the voice kept pestering, "you need to get to work early, you need to get to work early, you need to get to work early."

I had never heard such a persistent command and all I could figure was that my coworker was going to be late, which wouldn't be unusual, and I needed to relieve the day person. Thus, at 4:30, I left the house.

The voice continued while I was driving and I even had to tell it to shut up, that I was indeed heading to work early!

When I walked in the door at 5 PM, my coworker Manny told me my coworker Lisa was indeed late, and a new guy had gotten sat in her section.

Who do you think was sitting in my coworker's section and who do you think got to wait on him?

If I had ignored that voice and my coworker had waited on him, who knows what would’ve happened.

By the time Lisa came in for her shift, I had already placed his order. He and I had been talking the whole time because he was my only customer, so I told her, "he's mine." Famous last words!

I will add because it's fun – Clark heard a very similar voice telling him exactly which restaurant he needed to go to and that he had to go to dinner early. As he had had an especially rough day, it made sense to him and thankfully since the directive was forceful, he followed it.

Listen when you get a really strong feeling about something. Maybe you hear it, maybe you feel it, maybe you just sense it. Even if it doesn't make rational sense – follow it. Because you never know what magic could be waiting for you!
